Vino de Parcela – Carramainas

Nowadays a vulgarism in Spanish borne out of frustration meaning ‘I can’t believe it, get out of here’ etc , but actually originating from the Latin Mandat Opus,  meaning you are obliged to do something out of necessity.

Our vineyards are within the commune of Villarroya in Calatayud but we felt obliged by necessity to make these wines outside of the Denominación de Origen.

Whole bunches of white grapes hand-picked from the old single vineyard of Carramainas situated at 900 metres above sea level in the Sierra de la Virgen, foothills in the Sistema Ibérico ( Iberian mountain system in Aragón).

Whole-bunched pressed, to achieve purity and freshness, fermentation then takes place in 900 litre egg-shaped fermenters using only the free-run juice.

The wine then spends 10 months on lees with batonage before bottling with minimal filtration.
